Shauna is a 2008 graduate of Seton Catholic High School in Chandler. She is attending the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs and will graduate in May 2012. James, son of Carolyn and James Anderson III of Hankins, N.Y., is presently stationed in Colorado Springs and will begin pilot training at Columbus Air Force Base in Columbus, Miss. in March 2012.

It is interesting that you encourage people to consider not voting for Romney when he did not serve in the military, but went on a two half year LDS mission. I think you underestimate the desire for LDS young men to serve a mission. My son, graduated top of his class, worked hard in sports so he could attend the U.S. Air Force Academy. He received a $415,000 dollar scholarship to the AFA. He worked hard, he was on the dean’s list, was also in the 22 squad (Raptors) which finished first in the school and was able to stand behind President Obama at the graduation. He gave all this up to serve a mission in Chile. That is how important Mr. Romney also felt. He did this with the hope that there will be no major budget cuts to the AFA so that he may return there.
After graduating from Mountain Pointe High School in 2011, Ahwatukee resident Leighton Blankenburg received the Falcon Scholarship to Northwestern Preparatory School in Crestline, Calif. He attended the fall semester there and in the spring he was a full-time student at Arizona State University. On May 1, Leighton received his appointment letter from the United States Air Force Academy, a goal he has wanted since the sixth grade. He will be leaving on June 25 to Colorado Springs and will start basic training later that week.
