Money to help English language learners prepare for the AIMS test has not yet reached many East Valley classrooms — even though the exam started Monday at elementary and middle schools across the state.
Though the school club has been tutoring students nearly everyday for the past month, Desert Vista High School’s Peer Tutoring Club aimed to spread the news about its services with a grand opening ceremony this week.
With the new school year fast approaching, Mesa Unified School District will be needing volunteers to help out in the classroom. The Your Experience Counts program brings community groups and volunteers 50 and older together to help students in under-resourced schools. As a volunteer, you can work alongside teachers, one-on-one or with small groups of fourth-, fifth- and sixth-graders on reading, writing, math and science.
Students at Tempe’s Hudson Elementary have completed their first year in the SRP Tutor program. At Hudson, 17 tutors met weekly with 26 students to work on reading, with some assistance in math and spelling.
Just in time for school Tutor Time will debut Arizona’s largest learning center in the city of Maricopa, to be located at the northwest corner of John Wayne Parkway and Edison Road.
