Athlete of the week: Mele Iongi - The Mesa Mountain View junior helped her team capture the girls team title and the combined title at the recent Kiwanis tennis invitational and also helped establish the Toros as a potential challenger to the state 5A-I title.

A lot can happen over the holiday vacation. Flu bugs bite and families travel, leaving teams short-handed, but Corona del Sol and Mountain View overcame it all to reach the finals of the Dobson Mustang Soccer Classic girls tournament.

When the No. 8 and No. 9 seeds in just about any tournament square off, it’s nearly a sure thing the contest will be competitive.
Mountain View took advantage of ragged Marcos de Niza defense and rode the strong two-hit pitching of Te Keisha Pittman to a 3-1 victory Wednesday over the Padres in the championship game of the Marcos de Niza-McClintock Softball Tournament at McClintock High School.
