  • article Letters: Education campaign looks scarily familiar

    Monday, July 26, 2010 7:00 am

I was watching PBS’s KCET “Horizon” program (that should have been my first clue) the other night. Ted Simmons was gushing about this new “Vote 4 Arizona” campaign from the Expect More Arizona folks. It sure looked good so I started doing a little checking. Reading the leader’s bios, I noticed there were lots of Hispanic educators involved. Then, as I read more bios, I started seeing some “Save the Bay (SF)” and “Hands Across the Border” people. Hmmmm??? The slick website had a “en Espanol” click-on button on every page. Hmmmm (again)??? The campaign logo was an odd brown and “environmental” blue (Save the Whales, Green Peace, Ocean Watch, etc.), not “Old Glory” blue. Then it hit me. This campaign was modeled after Obama’s “Change” campaign (same blue) — this time targeting soccer moms and the energized (anti-SB 1070) Hispanic voters.
