Esther Moeller always attends the Lovin’ Life After 50 Expo, but this year she enjoyed the event even more than usual. Moeller won a two-night stay at the Harrah’s Ak-Chin Casino at the expo Tuesday at Sundial Recreation Center; she was very pleased and planned to use the prize as soon as possible. “I always look forward to this,” Moeller said. “I learn a lot.” The expo, now in its 23rd year, gives seniors an opportunity to obtain the latest information on retirement, health care, leisure, travel, education and casinos from more than 70 vendors.
Many people assume that older drivers aren’t the safest drivers, but in fact, this is not true. Drivers aged 65 or older comprise about 14 percent of the driving population, but account for less than 7 percent of all crashes. These drivers are often the safest and most experienced – they are less likely to drive under the influence of alcohol, they don’t usually speed or engage in distracting activities while driving, such as texting or talking on the phone, and they don’t usually drive late at night.

When Dana Ehli first met her charge, she was known simply as Irene Balint. Now, she goes by “Grandma Irene.”
