Expectations for an Arizona team have never been higher than they are for the Desert Vista girls squad. After only one season as a baseball assistant under current Basha coach Jim Schilling, Kraig Leuschner was hired to run Williams Field’s program before the 2011 season. With 58 combined wins the past three seasons, the Black Hawks are off to a good start again in Division II as they look to make a deep playoff run. Leuschner took a few minutes this week to talk about taking the next step, the brutal early-season schedule and his surprising junior class to go with some already-touted seniors.
The annual Wolf Howl boys volleyball tournament runs this weekend hosted by Chandler High School but the matches take place at a variety of Chandler district school gyms.

As the veto of SB 1062 proved, not everything that the Center for Arizona policy wants gets enacted. But the organization also has sometimes – though not often – found itself railing unsuccessfully against legislative support for changes in law.
Time to end the season on the right note with some great wrestling this weekend.
