A dog rescue organization will soon ask dog lovers around the Valley to open their homes to 31 Chihuahuas taken from a Colorado dog breeder in late February.

The Gilbert-based non-profit Wildhorse Ranch Rescue will host its fourth annual “Feed a Horse in Need” Empty Bowls benefit Saturday.

Chandler-based Kit Kat Rescue is looking for a new home due to the closure of their current PetSmart location.

Shannon Stevens, a certified dog trainer, was a volunteer at an animal sanctuary in Gilbert when she became saddened by the number of Australian cattle dogs euthanized at local shelters. So, she founded New Hope Cattle Dog Rescue in 2001.

Rescued Chihuahua dogs will be up for adoption Sunday at Sun Lakes, a retirement community south of Chandler. The event sponsored by Arizona Chihuahua Rescue is 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Cottonwood Country Club, 25630 Brentwood Drive, Sun Lakes.
