Arizona State University is scheduled to host a major presidential debate in six months. But it has raised only $800,000 of the $3 million needed to do so.
Arizona State University and Tempe will host the last presidential debate in 2004, giving the East Valley a front-row seat to the final weeks of the campaign for the White House.

WASHINGTON - The campaigns of President Bush and Sen. John Kerry have tentatively settled on a package of three face-to-face debates that both sides view as a potentially decisive chance to sway huge audiences ahead of the Nov. 2 election, Democrats and Republicans said Sunday.
Wednesday's Republican primary presidential debate at the Mesa Arts Center will be closed to the public, but the city will host a viewing party downtown where thousands can gather to watch the event live.
Arizona will be front and center on Dec. 1 in the race among Republicans to earn the right to face off against Barack Obama.
