In the irony of the ages, the Arizona attorney general has developed a division called "Fraud Fighters." Its mission is to warn consumers about scams being perpetrated on the poor, unsuspecting public. That's right, you and I are being scammed with yet another governmental boondoggle rich in high-rolling bureaucrats, regulators and paper pushers falling all over themselves to hide the fact that governments themselves are the coolest, slipperiest scam artists of all time.

I consider myself to be an average American. I am fiscally conservative in that I do not buy anything that I cannot afford. I believe people have a right to live their own lives as they see fit as long as it doesn’t infringe on someone else’s life in a negative manner. I believe people should take responsibility for their own well being in that if money is tight you don’t go out and buy things you cannot afford or don’t need. These are principles I live by. This president and the two houses of government have totally ignored these principles. They spend money they don’t have or reasonably expect to pay back on programs that are nothing but vote getters. They add unnecessary expenditures to bills that have nothing to do with the bill being considered.

As elected leaders in the Town of Gilbert, we feel a responsibility to the citizens of Gilbert to explain our rationale when it comes to our votes. We voted “no” when it came to putting a permanent .25 percent tax increase dedicated to public safety before the voters because we believed then, and still do, that we have more work to be done, that government CAN become more efficient and because tax increases should only be used as a very last resort and only to provide essential services.

Austin Hill: President Barack Obama is human. He is not a "messiah," he is not omniscient, and after a year in the White House, he has neither been, nor will be, that one, single individual who "fixes everything" that is wrong with America.
