In reference to the article “Rights Come from God,” when I hear terms like “divine-inspiration politics,” “God’s Plan” and “the Constitution,” all in one line of thought, I become very afraid. What if the divine inspiration of one person of power is diametrically opposed to that of another person of power? Or even my beliefs? Do we have a divinity contest? Such examples of inspiration are what brought us into a war in Iraq, energizes and directs the Taliban and has generated many other conflicts both past and present. Any potential governmental leader who believes his religion’s dogma to be divinely inspired and/or his decisions also to be divinely inspired and part of God’s plan is obligated to inform the electorate that this will be a guiding principle in his decision-making process, so that believers of other divinely inspired religions and those who expect leaders to simply make educated decisions will be prepared to make a wise choice at the ballot box.
As “Opponents of Brewer’s Medicaid plan speak out” it rapidly becomes obvious that they are obsessed with forcing their personal, misguided value systems on we citizens.
Mr. Butcher’s assault on Mr. McClellan, an advocate of the one-cent sales tax increase, is a collection of irrelevancies masquerading as a logical presentation against the sales tax increase. Of course the Arizona Education Association and many others support an increase in public school funding. That’s hardly a lethal argument. Does the NRA support various gun laws? Wow, that’s shocking!
“Mesa judge Markel [Mark] Chiles was issued a citation for shoplifting recently. Will another judge give him the six months in jail and $2,500 fine just to set the punishment at a level others could receive? Watch for a slap on the wrist.”

I read with disbelief a recent story that said university presidents’ salaries are on the rise. What in God’s name makes these people worth more than the Department of Economic Security budget?

On May 5 the Tribune asked a question of its readers about illegal immigration. "Why so angry?" the illegal immigrant-sympathizing headline sniffed.

The 2006 NFL draft is over. Training camp begins in three long months. That's about 100 days without any major football or football-related events on the schedule. What's a football-starved fan to do between now and then? Well, there's always obsessing over the draft.
