Montverde (Fla.) Academy center Ruslan Pateev has committed to the Arizona State men’s basketball team.
Here comes a crossroads. ASU had a wildly successful season in 2008-09. Can they build on that next season without Jeff Pendergraph and -- likely -- James Harden?

SEATTLE — The Washington Huskies' previous encounter with Arizona State isn't a night they are going to forget easily.
November is football season, but with Dennis Erickson’s team a source of frustration and armchair angst, perhaps Herb Sendek’s squad can provide a reprieve at Arizona State.
Last weekend, the sky was falling. This weekend, all is well with the world again. This is the way of the 2009-2010 Pac-10 to date, with the Arizona State men’s basketball squad somewhere inside this thicket of topsy-turvy teams.
Scott Bordow: Life after James Harden and Jeff Pendergraph never was going to be easy for the Arizona State Sun Devils. You don’t lose two players of that quality and just pick up where you left off. OK, maybe North Carolina does. But not ASU. Like Bill Murray in the movie, “What About Bob?,” the Devils will have to take baby steps.
