Lee Councilor was a 17-year-old working at Bob’s Big Boy in Mesa when the kitchen cleanup crew didn’t show up one night, leaving him with extra work.
Zachary HN McCabe flew into San Diego airport from Arizona on his way to a Navy base. He had all of his bags and did not know where to go. So he went to the San Diego USO and called his base. While he waited for someone to pick him up, he got some refreshments, played games and rested.

Christopher Anthony Garcia, graduate of Mesquite High School (2007) is returning to his hometown of Gilbert, Arizona after four years of service in the US Navy. Petty Officer 2nd class Garcia was assigned to the U.S.S. Abraham Lincoln, a nuclear-powered aircraft carrier stationed in Everett Washington. While on the Lincoln, Garcia was deployed twice to the Gulf in support of the U.S. and coalition ground force in Iraq and Afghanistan. As a radio and communications specialist, Garcia was responsible for IT support between the ship and aircraft.

A $600 contribution to CAMP HOPE will provide a week-long camping experience for these kids, allowing them to be kids again and also the opportunity to share their experiences with children of other service members. Any and all donations will provide services to support families learning to live with a service member facing newly acquired disabilities.

The city of Chandler will host the Military Members and Veterans Benefits Expo 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 1 at the Chandler Community Center, 125 E. Commonwealth Ave. The free event will feature dozens of vendors offering a host of benefits and programs - from health care and education to employment opportunities and more - for veterans, military members and their families.
