An old favorite restaurant spot is getting new life with New Mexican-inspired cuisine.

Ernie Serrano Sr., patriarch of the Serrano’s Mexican Food restaurants family, died Friday of bone cancer. He was 79. The Serranos lay claim to operating the oldest, continuous family-owned business in Chandler, having opened its doors in 1919.

Pancheros Mexican Grill, a fast-casual Mexican restaurant, is opening Jan. 29 in Chandler, and they’ll sell $1 burritos to mark the occasion.
When most people think of New Mexican cuisine, the first thing that comes to mind is chile peppers. So you might be surprised by Blue Adobe Grille, which has been serving tasty but not necessarily spicy New Mexican food for nearly a decade near downtown Mesa.
Some members of the Matta's family are starting a new Matta's at Mesa Riverview. They plan to open it in February, following a groundbreaking ceremony Tuesday.
