  • article Herzog: Is Smith’s landslide coming down?

    Wednesday, April 2, 2008 8:02 pm

If you were here a couple of posts back, you would have seen that I’m not exactly enamored of Scott Smith as a mayoral candidate. Well, I’ve made a difference. I’m told he’s sworn off the “mommy” metaphor on which I focused my wrath.

  • article Chandler's Networking@9: Double performance and productivity

    Saturday, August 25, 2012 9:00 am

Arizona Place, Ste 201. • article Too close for comfort in Gilbert

    Thursday, March 13, 2003 5:17 pm

One hesitates to use the colloquialism “dodged a bullet” to describe the near miss Gilbert High School just had with the uncovering of an apparent plot by several of its students to carry out a Colombine-style massacre there. The metaphor seems too chillingly apt, given that the school may have just dodged a lot of them.

  • article Oh, for the love of chicken

    Thursday, August 23, 2012 12:49 pm

To be honest with you, I don’t really care where you get your chicken sandwich. The thing that interests me the most about the whole Chick-fil-A, marriage equality discussion is wrapped up in the phrase, “the biblical model of marriage.” It interests me because there are assumptions being made about a “biblical model” that simply does not hold water. The Bible does not have that much to say about marriage, and a great deal of what is said does not fit the assumptions.

  • article Cagle: That racist dead monkey cartoon

    Monday, February 23, 2009 4:02 pm

All the pundits are talking about the recent cartoon by the New York Post’s Sean Delonas, showing a chimp shot by two policemen who say, “They’ll have to find someone else to write the next stimulus bill.” The prevailing view among the bloggers and talking-heads is that the cartoon is a racist depiction of Obama as a monkey. Al Sharpton has taken the opportunity to grab the media spotlight by condemning the cartoon. New York Post employees are reportedly “unhappy and ashamed” of the “offensive cartoon.” The media love arguments about race.
