Jevin Hodge, a senior at Tempe’s McClintock High School, has inspired a bill – one which formally honors students for community service work – that is currently waiting for Gov. Jan Brewer’s signature. The bill creates a commendation from the governor for students who complete 200 or more community service hours.

Three classrooms of students were evacuated from McClintock High School in Tempe, shortly after a fire was discovered inside a restroom Wednesday morning.

The Arts Council for Youth and the Keeney Family of Tempe announced the Damon Russell Fawcett Memorial Music Scholarship will go to Andrew Sykes from Tempe’s McClintock High School. Sykes will attend this fall Auburn University in Alabama with plans to become a teacher and musician.

Thursday was a good day to be Mike Gibbons. After more than 15 years as an assistant, Gibbons was named the new football coach at Tempe McClintock High School, where he intends to build on the school’s recent football success in 4A Division I the past few years.

Tucson Salpointe Catholic won nine points in a row in the deciding game Saturday for a victory over host Tempe McClintock in the championship of the McClintock High School volleyball tournament.

In the fifth-place game of the gray division in the Nike Tournament of Champions girls basketball tournament, McClintock beat Marin (Calif.) Catholic 47-45 on Saturday at the Santan K-8 Campus in Chandler.

With both Tempe McClintock and Tempe High coming into Friday undefeated, this year’s edition of their crosstown rivalry game was set up to be a classic.

The first two times Tempe McClintock faced Phoenix Thunderbird, the stumbling blocks for the Chargers were Chiefs forward Zane Johnson and guard Peter Rodriguez.
