When I first moved to the Valley of the Sun in 2000, the PBS TV channel, KAET, was a “powerhouse.” The best TV programming on local television. “MacNeil/Lehrer NewsHour” gave the best (unbiased) analysis of the day’s news events. “Masterpiece Theatre” and “Masterpiece Mystery” were “must watch” week in and week out. Wonderful foreign films were shown that could be seen nowhere else on the Valley of the Sun’s TV channels. We viewers didn’t know it be we were seeing the “beginning of the end” for KAET.
Those who want to raise the minimum wage claiming that it’s too low to raise a family have not done their due diligence and do not know the history of that program. It was never, ever intended to be for anyone other than young people such as high school students to earn a small income while they prepare for college and trade schools. To raise that wage would cause the cost of products to go up, young people to lose their jobs and in many cases, the businesses to close. Why do liberals always want to fix things that “ain’t” broke?
Incumbent Attorney General Tom Horne lashed out Monday night at “liberal media” and “a small, self-selected group of people” for trying to derail his reelection bid.
The questions were about improving Arizona's economy.
When legal immigrants arrived at Ellis Island and were sick, they were sent back. Today, illegal immigrants are given health care better than many veterans.
This week, a little-noticed “crack” (teacher union members) in the Democratic voter base suddenly surfaced. The huge, ultra-liberal National Education Association (NEA) voted on July 4 (ironically) to dump some “tea” in Obama’s harbor. This teachers union membership voted to demand the resignation of President Obama’s education “guru”, Secretary of Education Arne Duncan. He supported the California judge’s ruling that the state’s teacher tenure law were fostering the abysmal education of low-income, black and Hispanic students because bad “tenured” teachers in California were impossible to fire.
So, the latest expose to come out about Superintendent of Public Instruction John Huppenthal is that he trolls on both liberal and conservative blogs using the names Thucydides and Falcon 9, defending none other than (drum roll please) John Huppenthal! And many of the comments can be traced back to the IP address of the Arizona Department of Education. WOW!
WASHINGTON — Home-schooling mom Jenni White gave some of the loudest cheers when Oklahoma Gov. Mary Fallin signed legislation to repeal the Common Core education standards.
My grandmother always set a beautiful Passover table. The linen was crisp and the glasses sparkled. A plate of matzoh, unleavened bread, covered with an embroidered cloth, graced the table. So did a tray of vegetables reserved for young stomachs. My grandfather presided over the service from the head of the table, with Gramma at the other end, close to the kitchen. In the center of the table sat the seder plate with its crimson and gold border, and in its centre, at the heart of all the finery, sat the shank bone.
MADISON, Wis. - Nestled on an isthmus that's home to both buttoned-up politicians in the state Capitol and more liberal-leaning college students just a short walk away, Madison lives up to its endearing unofficial motto as "77 square miles surrounded by reality."
As progress on Gilbert’s first four-year educational institution continues, one thing university officials are trying to do is blend the town’s aesthetic with a hint of their hometown.
“So Kim Kardashian was not nervous walking down the isle. She has lots of practice. This is her third trip. I’ll bet she won’t be nervous on trips four, five, six and seven.”
Just got through watching another of President Obama’s dog and pony shows on the TV. As usual, his administration was blameless. The VA scandal was all George Bush’s fault. Too many wounded warriors were showing up for their “promised” VA healthcare. Congress was at fault too. Even though he knew of the VA’s “gaming” of the vet’s appointments back in 2009, it still wasn’t his fault. Excuse after excuse, finger pointing after finger pointing, study after study, commission after commission and now President Obama’s right-hand man is going to “look into the situation and report to President Obama directly” so that he has a better picture of what he has known all along. When will we hear President Obama’s inevitable mea culpa “I am the President of the United States and the buck stops here”? He sounds like your PR-groomed, typical, slick, Chicago lawyer (oops, he was a Chicago lawyer ... lol).
To say that the new Adam Sandler movie, "Blended," is better than some of his other recent work — "Jack and Jill," for example — isn't saying much. After all, some natural disasters cause less damage than others. But none are a positive development.
No matter how cliché it is, we, as high school students, have each faced a fork in the road, a point where we made a decision. This decision may have defined us or may have guided us. For me, running for senior class president was simply the easiest decision I made, the hard ones would come once school started and planning homecoming would become a discussion of themes, layouts, colors, centerpieces and decorations. As the president, my task was to be able to mediate a discussion that involved my opinion without favoring.
NEW YORK — So, a lady walks into a bar...Wait, scratch that. A lady takes out her phone. With a left swipe of her finger she dismisses Alex, 25 and Robert, 48. She swipes right when a photo of James, 24, pops up. It's a match. James had swiped right too. They chat, and make plans to meet. They're only three miles apart, after all.
“Manana, manana, manana is good enough for me.” Truer words have never been said about the Hispanic vote. The liberals, progressives, socialist wannabes and Democrats have been threatening Arizona for years and years and years about the Hispanic voter tsunami that will forever change Arizona.
An attorney for a former staffer at the Attorney General's Office filed a formal complaint Monday alleging that Tom Horne and top staffers repeatedly violated campaign finance laws.
COMMES, France — Weather conditions over Normandy had been iffy for days. Showers and wind in the morning gave way to glorious spring sunshine in the afternoon, then electric green lightning storms over the sea at night.

“I know of several people who have contacted the Chandler Municipal Airport regarding noise abatement. At the end of the online form there is a question asking if the resident would like to be contacted regarding the complaint. Needless to say, each person marked the ‘yes’ box, but no contact has ever been made. Is this the way the Airport Operations personnel at Chandler deal with issues?”
Westminster College has decided to close its Mesa campus at the end of the spring semester.
There was one great “viral” video on the news and the blogsphere this past week.
Someone recently told me about a movie titled “God’s Not Dead.” It stars Kevin Sorbo of Hercules fame, Dean Cain of Superman fame, and Willie Robertson of Duck Dynasty. After I looked up the synopsis and read the critical reviews I decided to go watch it.
