The upcoming election is about Ann Romney, the First Lady Michelle Obama, you, my wife, and every woman in the United States who might lose their rights of choice if the GOP have their way in 2012. I’ve been in the employment field for 30 years. On Sept. 15, the stock market dropped 500 points. People are going to lose jobs. Arizonans lost jobs before; in the late 1980s savings and loan crisis, the dot-com bust, and the sub-prime mortgage crisis. This time it is going to be much worse.
I visit bookstores a lot. In other decades, I spent much more time in public libraries, especially at the shelves displaying the newest titles.
“To all of you fans of the Chicago Cubs, go back to Chicago. I’m a native Arizonan and I cheer for Arizona teams. I have loved the Diamondbacks since they began.”
WASHINGTON - John Updike came to Washington to promote a book. At the recent BookExpo America, publishing's annual national convention, he dined under the dimmed lights and high ceilings of the Corcoran Gallery, sermonized against the digital future to an appreciative breakfast gathering and sat for interviews in a conference room that seemed as bare and isolated as a cabin in the woods.
