Our state and our country are in a downward spiral. We have fallen prey to those who have robbed us of our true history. I could not agree more with our Founding Father, John Jay, when he wrote, "Providence has given to our people the choice of their rulers, and it is the duty, as well as the privilege and interest of our Christian nation, to select and prefer Christians for their rulers... Americans are the first people whom Heaven has favored with an opportunity of deliberating upon and choosing the forms of government under which they should live."

Most people believe that slavery in America was a shameful enterprise that only exists in history books. You may be shocked to learn that the slave trade has made a comeback and is currently a thriving industry in the Land of the Free.

In "Bruce Almighty," funnyman Jim Carrey plays a disgruntled TV news reporter (and disenchanted Catholic) who blames God for the crummy condition of his life. The upcoming election is about Ann Romney, the First Lady Michelle Obama, you, my wife, and every woman in the United States who might lose their rights of choice if the GOP have their way in 2012. This fight isn’t about contraception, Ms. Turley-Hansen, it’s about a woman’s, and eventually everyone’s, right to make any decision for herself/themselves going forward in the future.

I visit bookstores a lot. In other decades, I spent much more time in public libraries, especially at the shelves displaying the newest titles.
