Perry athletic director John Wrenn is leaving his post to become director of football operations at Arizona State.
Wrenn established the Hamilton football dynasty in the late 1990s and early 2000s as coach and athletic director there for eight years, then coached the running backs for a season at ASU under Dirk Koetter in 2006.
He has been the athletic director at Perry since then, and Wrenn said having administrative and coaching experience will help him in this new job.
“This is a neat avenue for me,” Wrenn said. “I’m excited. I think it’s a perfect fit.”
Wrenn was not retained as a football coach at ASU when Dennis Erickson was hired, but the two had met previously and Wrenn is looking forward to working with him.
“He’s a proven winner,” Wrenn said. “He’s always been very successful.”
Wrenn will begin his new job next Monday.
Once Wrenn officially resigns, Perry’s human resources department will post the athletic director opening, principal Dan Serrano said.
The school will go without an AD the rest of the school year, but will have someone in place for the fall.
