For the second straight day, scores of Maricopa County sheriff's deputies and civilian volunteers swept through Guadalupe targeting suspected illegal immigrants as frustrated town leaders said they wanted Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio out and a different police agency to patrol their streets.

A man was found stabbed in the chest Tuesday evening in Guadalupe, with his suspected attacker arrested as the town conducted its election a short distance away. The identities of the victim and suspect were not released.

An event nearly five centuries ago from which Guadalupe took its name will be celebrated in two phases — first today as a municipal and cultural event, then Friday through Sunday as a religious Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe, organized by the community’s Catholic parish.
