Teachers across Arizona are going back to school to learn how to conduct a structured English immersion classroom, as the state mandated last month.
Liberty Arts Academy, a Mesa charter school, will host an "A" celebration picnic at the school Friday to mark the school's rating from the state Department of Education. The school principal will speak and each class will present its "A" poster, created for the event. During the week, older students are writing about, "What does an Arizona grade ‘A' mean to you?" and "What considerations are made when receiving a grade A?"
The Arizona Department of Education released "letter grades" for each school on Aug. 2, 2012, demonstrating its rating of how the school is performing.

State schools Superintendent Tom Horne conceded Wednesday he can’t stop the Legislature from changing the law so some high school students could graduate without passing AIMS.
Chandler recently earned the only A+ grade on the Valley Forward 2008 Environmental Report Card. Valley Forward, an organization that has worked regionally for nearly 40 years to improve environmental quality while encouraging economic growth in Valley cities, produces the report card every few years.
