Discrimination is gone? I think not! Homosexuals are stuck in the same rut they’ve been in for the past 17 years. Any homosexual citizen wishing to serve in the military is still not allowed to be open about their sexuality. I want Congress to repeal “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.” This policy is absolutely nonsensical. The thought that someone’s sexuality affects how they fight is sheer applesauce. Homosexuals are still people and deserve the same respect and treatment as heterosexuals. Soldiers should be respectful of homosexuals and should not be selfish. It’s egotistical to let someone’s sexuality make you uncomfortable and therefore unwilling to fight for your country. The United States is making fighting in the army seem like a privilege to homosexuals. To be quite frank, our country can’t afford to not allow homosexuals to fight with the amount of soldiers lost during combat routinely. The recently gained Republican majority worries me because predictions are that the act won’t be repealed. The freedom our country was founded on is clearly not being shown in our policies.
Tyranny inflicted upon a minority by the majority in a democracy must not be tolerated. Legislating moral values via the ballot box IS tyranny.
