Smoothies are a nutritious way to stir things up in the kitchen, especially if the ingredients come from your garden.
"Guardians of the Galaxy” (PG-13) is the 10th film set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and also probably the silliest. The good news is that director James Gunn’s film is silly in all the right ways. It’s never insultingly silly like “Batman & Robin” or unknowingly silly like “The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.” Rather, “Guardians of the Galaxy” basks in its silliness and has a blast with its outlandish premise. Since the film never takes itself too seriously, the audience is ironically able to take it more seriously than most straight-faced science fiction epics. In a summer of dark, gritty blockbusters, “Guardians of the Galaxy” is the life of the party.
The quality of imported oil, of the olive variety, is under scrutiny after a 2010 report by the University of California, Davis Olive Center determined most “extra-virgin” olive oils fail to meet U.S. or international standards regarding the content and taste.
There are muffins, of course. And pancakes. And the obligatory fruit salad. But then what? After all the usual suspects, how do you handle a seasonal abundance of blueberries?

The sweet, slightly acidic flavor of fresh strawberries begs for a rich, crunchy accompaniment. And for that, we turned to pistachios.
Pork with mustard and molasses reminds me of my grandmother. Every summer, she would roast a fresh ham slathered with mustard and molasses. It was an all-day affair and the house would smell heavenly.
ANNAPOLIS, Md. — Do not wear your Sunday Best.
What I really wanted was pizza. But I was too lazy to drive down to the pizza shop to get it, and they only deliver if you order $40 or more. And as much as I like pizza, that's a lot of pizza.
When it comes to ice cream, I generally feel it's hard to improve on a simple scoop right out of the carton. But this time my mind has turned to baked Alaska. I know... How retro!
The secret to this simple Mother's Day dessert is frozen puff pastry. It is easy to work with and bakes up into a deliciously flaky pastry.

PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh may have been built around the steel and coal industries, but the once-sooty city now features a beautiful downtown river walk, multi-cultural neighborhoods and restaurants, and even free subway rides.
Maybe it's the bright color. Maybe it's the fresh, vibrant taste. Whatever the reason, Easter has become inextricably linked to lemon (and chocolate, of course). So we decided to do a refresh of the conventional breakfast cinnamon bun, infusing it with lemony goodness three different ways.
Culinary herbs are enjoying a revival thanks to new varieties, stronger flavors, health concerns and more discerning palates. Their low cost, attractiveness and easy-to-grow attributes are making them popular, too.
SACRAMENTO, Calif. — As the happy hour crowd poured in on a recent weeknight, the kitchen and bar staff at Hock Farm restaurant scrambled to meet the incoming orders.
Walls can get dirty before you know it — from a splatter of spaghetti dinner to the crayon artistry of a roaming toddler to fingers simply reaching for a light switch.
It all started at my friend Anthony's house not long ago during the beginning the so-called polar vortex. He is a gifted home cook and a food television producer, so he knows his way around a pot. He also is from Texas and we share a love of tequila, barbecue and anything Tex-Mex!
You don’t have to read the credits or see the previews to recognize “The Grand Budapest Hotel” as a Wes Anderson picture. Anyone familiar with Anderson’s work can immediately spot his whimsical filmmaking style and sense of humor that’s completely bizarre, yet also deadpan. While Anderson has fallen into a comfortable, if not slightly predictable, groove, he still remains one of the most distinctive voices and visionaries of the past two decades. With his previous film, “Moonrise Kingdom,” Anderson perfected his craft as a writer and director. Although “The Grand Budapest Hotel” is a step down from that near perfect film, it’s still another quirky, charming entertainment with that special Wes Anderson touch.
To help get us in the mood for spring, we've given a seasonal makeover to the classic crab cake.
It's convenient to pick up some laundry detergent at the store, but it's not difficult to create your own.
The yin and yang of spring make it such an interesting season. After the brutal bite of winter, even a gloomy spring day can lift our spirits with warmer breezes and an emerging palette of delicate hues — those first tinges of new greens, a fuzzy gray bud, a brushstroke of crocus blue. Then, as the season really plants its feet, fresh bright color starts popping up all over.
This past summer I fell in love with a kitchen gadget that has been relatively slow to catch on in the U.S. — the mandoline.
It’s easy to imagine how the pitch for “Non-Stop,” the latest action thriller starring Liam Neeson, went down. “Okay, guys, how about this? It’s ‘Taken,’ but on an airplane!”
