    Campo Verde High School's thespian troupe was the only Gilbert school to participate at the International Thespian Festival this summer, where the students received high honors with a superior rating. The troupe's 5-minute film progressed from regional to state honors before it was entered at the international competition in Lincoln, Neb., in late June. Joni Koehn teaches the group.

    Arizona State University announced that it has established the McCain Institute for International Leadership. The new institute is initially supported by a $9 million gift from the McCain Institute Foundation, a charitable trust funded by Arizona Sen. John McCain. ASU will build the nonpartisan and nonprofit education and research center, based in Washington, D.C., and with a physical presence in Tempe. Full establishment of the Institute is planned for early 2013.

    Students from Chandler-Gilbert Community College’s engineering program have been selected to participate in Intel’s Ultimate Engineering Experience, a nationwide internship program designed to provide hands-on technical engineering experience. The six-week program takes students through a variety of technical skill development activities, including team based project work, competitions, professional skill development, networking and social activities.
