  1. Eagle Scout honor

    During a ceremony at 6 p.m. on Saturday at the Grace United Methodist Church in Mesa, six members of the Mesa District’s Boy Scouts of America Troop 451 are set to receive their Eagle Scout badges, the highest ranking honor that Boy Scouts can receive after fulfilling requirements and completing community service projects. Pictured left to right are: Former Troop 451 Scoutmaster Dan Vigil, Alberts Matthews, Bob Vigil, Jared Boscarino, Alex Scsavnicki, Ulysses Weatherford, Cameron Rusywick and Scoutmaster Greg Randolph. Within the last 12 months, Troop 451 has had nine Scouts receive their Eagle Scout badges and is celebrating its 45th anniversary.

    I am a 15-year-old working on my Eagle Scout Award. One of the requirements is that I write a letter to the editor of a newspaper and express my opinion on a subject of my choice. After reading all of the vents and letters in your newspaper on waterboarding, I chose that as my subject of choice. Now, I agree with all the posts that waterboarding is inhumane. However, it is significantly better than what our “friends” in the Middle East do to all of our brave men and women in arms. So, while it may not be humane, if the information we are getting saves lives then I am all for it!
