After listening to the arguments before the Supreme Court on Proposition 8, and as someone who leans conservative, usually votes Republican and is an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, I found the arguments to overturn it compelling. Moreover, I found the arguments on behalf of proponents of Proposition 8 to be relatively weak, focusing almost solely on procreation.
A colleague of mine quipped the other day that the only religion he believes in is his own. “Sure,” I countered. “You piously believe in your own opinion.”
Easter offers an ideal opportunity to enjoy family, faith and our beautiful spring weather, especially with the plethora of activities going on around town this weekend. Events ranging from a dino egg hunt to an Easter brunch “down on the farm” provide locations and price points to suit almost everyone.
Every year leading up to Easter, on a temporary, five-story, outdoor stage erected near downtown Mesa, the story of the life and mission of Jesus Christ, taken from the Bible, is portrayed in live performance, music and dance.
They come from all parts of the Valley — 475 men, women, teens and children — and spend countless hours in practice and performances during the month leading up to Easter. The goal: presenting to the community the story of the life and mission of Jesus Christ in music, drama and dance.
