I was watching the Weather Channel with my youngest daughter a few days ago. A clip came on about the devastating floods in Pakistan, and the commentator remarked how upset so many people were because they had lost all of their loved ones. Without missing a beat, my daughter said, "No they haven't. God loves them. I want to go over there and tell them that right now."

From elementary to college students, many use backpacks to help carry everything from books to food and more throughout the school day, but could those backpacks be putting our children’s bodies in harm’s way? Backpacks can actually be especially taxing on the back, neck and shoulders if worn incorrectly.

In this case, a child who needs help with homework or a personal problem, or just a little encouragement. The Phone Friend Program operated by the Association for Supportive Child Care provides a free, bilingual “warm line” that kids ages 5-18 can call after school when they need to talk to someone. And the program needs you.
