To be honest with you, I don’t really care where you get your chicken sandwich. The thing that interests me the most about the whole Chick-fil-A, marriage equality discussion is wrapped up in the phrase, “the biblical model of marriage.” It interests me because there are assumptions being made about a “biblical model” that simply does not hold water. The Bible does not have that much to say about marriage, and a great deal of what is said does not fit the assumptions.

So, just how desperate are you for a free meal at Chick-fil-A? If you show up at a Chick-fil-A dressed from head to hoof as a cow on Thursday, you'll get a free chicken meal; come partially dressed as a cow and you get a free entree. Bring your family with the little ones as calves and the whole herd gets free meals.

Last month our congregation hosted a food-packing event for Feed My Starving Children. Along with congregations in Peoria, Scottsdale and Mesa, Ahwatukee Foothills residents packed over a million meals for hungry children in over 60 countries. It is a classic win-win. The result was terrific, but the process may have been every bit as important. In a time when people of faith are beating each other up, feeding hungry children seems to be common ground. Not just for people of faith and differing faiths, but people of no faith at all. We had church and civic groups, employee and school groups, children and adults – over 5000 volunteers brought together from many different places to become neighbors to each other and to children they will never meet.

Wednesday is International Respect for Chickens Day and I’m guessing that, if you work in chicken-hating corporate America, you aren’t getting the day off, either.
