ABC15 is proud to once again partner with Sanderson Ford and Sanderson Lincoln to be part of the annual Operation Santa Claus Charity Drive. The first ten years have resulted in a record number of donations for Valley children’s charities with over 50,000 donations to date.

    I read all of these “socially responsible” newspaper articles and see the “feel good” TV shows of American doctors, dentists, surgeons and nurses flying off to far-flung corners of the world to donate their time. I know it is a heck of a lot more interesting to describe how you helped Brazilian headhunters or New Guinea “mud people” during your summer vacation at cocktail parties or hospital galas, but what about Americans in need of medical care? Instead of ducking bullets in the Afghan Kush, how about helping at a Veteran’s Administration hospital or clinic? Instead of swatting tsetse flies in the Sudan, how about helping out at the local free clinic or Native American reservation? What about that old truism that “charity begins at home”?
