I know it is a heck of a lot more interesting to describe how you helped Brazilian headhunters or New Guinea “mud people” during your summer vacation at cocktail parties or hospital galas, but what about Americans in need of medical care? Instead of ducking bullets in the Afghan Kush, how about helping at a Veteran’s Administration hospital or clinic? Instead of swatting tsetse flies in the Sudan, how about helping out at the local free clinic or Native American reservation? What about that old truism that “charity begins at home”?
