BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. - Eleven college students received cash prizes and trophies Saturday for short films competing in the 35th annual Student Academy Awards.

Two plays was all it took to put the brakes on Mountain View's otherwise-relentless night.

A judge ordered on Thursday that an incapacitated Chandler man in a hospice be kept alive and given a special guardian as his loved ones battle over who has his best interests at heart.

People have always speculated about what might or might not happen in 2012, but this past year turned out to be one full of waiting.

Cross Country state championships

Mountain View overwhelmed the 5A East Valley girls swim meet almost before it started as the Toros placed four girls in every event in the finals. With half the field composed of Toros, they easily outdistanced second-place Dobson 641-381 on Saturday at Shepherd Pool.

TEAMS TO WATCH: Brophy boys: The Broncos begin a new era, as Pat O’Neill takes over as coach for Bill Kopas. In addition to winning 26 of the past 27 state titles, O’Neill believes he’s walking into Phoenix Brophy’s most talented team in years.

Laura Mozdzen was elated. Courtney Haney was ecstatic. Ryan Kiley was pretty easy going.

As of Tuesday

Someday, the talent pool will dry up enough and the Chandler High girls track program will be challenged for state supremacy. That day, however, is not in the immediate future.
