BUCKEYE, Ariz. (AP) — Three Arizona Department of Corrections employees going to work were critically injured and four others also were hurt when their van overturned in a traffic accident in Buckeye.
Department of Public Safety spokesman Bart Graves says the DOC van rolled on its side when struck by a pickup truck which ran a stop sign at an intersection Monday night.
Graves says three of the workers were reported in critical or extremely critical conditions while injuries to the other four were less serious. The Department of Corrections says those four were released after treatment.
The pickup's driver wasn't hurt, and Graves says there's no indication she was impaired.
The accident occurred on State Route 85 as the DOC workers were going to work at the Lewis prison complex in Buckeye.
BUCKEYE, Ariz. (AP) — Police are conducting an administrative inquiry after an officer was caught on video threatening to kill a man during a traffic stop.
The Buckeye police officer stopped a vehicle for an obstructed license plated Oct. 10 on State Route 85.
Police officials say the driver was believed to be armed and transporting a large amount of narcotics.
They say the driver didn't comply with the officer's requests and commands were given in Spanish and English.
Police say the officer had his gun out of its holster, but didn't point it at the driver.
The officer's name hasn't been released, but has been with Buckeye police for about one year.
Police say the driver has filed a formal complaint against the department because of the threat.
A 27-year-old man sitting behind bars accused of repeatedly punching a Mesa bus driver last month said his emotions got the better of him and then apologized.
PHOENIX (AP) — Maricopa County Sheriff's officials are searching for a missing volunteer posseman.
They say 71-year-old Samuel Grider of Buckeye is believed to have last been at the Calvery Chapel in Maricopa Sunday.
Sheriff's officials said Wednesday that Grider's pickup truck has been found in a remote portion of the desert directly north east of the Sonoran National monument in the Lower Rainbow Valley.
They say Grider is a retired Army veteran who recently had hip-replacement surgery.
Grider is a 20-year veteran of the Sheriff's Crime Prevention Posse
