Longfellow Elementary School is celebrating its 50th birthday - and you're invited.
Foothills Family Chiropractic, 1241 E. Chandler Blvd., Suite 122, will host a community event on Saturday, Sept. 17 from 8:30 to 10 a.m. to celebrate chiropractic's birthday. This event will be open to the public and there will be a raffle to give away prizes along with free exams and X-rays.
Fifty years ago on July 17, Chandler Regional Medical Center, a member of Catholic Healthcare West (CHW), opened its doors as Chandler Community Hospital with 25 employees and 91 volunteers.

Sea Life Arizona celebrates its first birthday with the premiere of two giant puffer fish, activities for kids and birthday treats for the ocean creatures, including a special gift for the octopus.
P.T. Barnum, the famous 19th-century American showman and huckster, would have been 200 years old this year. To celebrate, the circus that still bears his name, Ringling Bros. and Barnum and Bailey, is putting on a super-sized new show. Funundrum, the circus' 2010-2011 touring production, features 130 performers from six continents and almost 100,000 pounds of elephants, cowboys, goats, pirates, trapeze artists, tigers, mermaids and other performers.

As part of its 50th anniversary, the Phoenix Zoo is inviting children to draw and send birthday wishes for a contest. The winning artwork could be included in an exhibit that will open in August at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport’s Terminal 4. The exhibit will showcase the zoo’s conservation efforts, as well as animal-inspired art.
This year the Girl Scouts from an Ahwatukee neighborhood have donated over 80 filled and decorated birthday boxes to Child Protective Services. Last year the Girl Scouts donated over 30 boxes. The boxes filled with cake mixes, frosting, plates, napkins, utensils, decorations, disposable cameras and birthday presents, are for children who may not otherwise be able to celebrate their birthdays. Monika LeBlanc, project coordinator, delivered the boxes to the Tempe office of CPS.
