THIS WEEK’S GAMES
Teams to watch
Led by runners Sammy Tunny and Jessica Micksch, who finished second and fourth, respectively, Williams Field totaled 33 points at home to defeat Florence (50), Apache Junction (53) and Combs (110).
Apache Junction's Omar Emert set a new course record at Williams Field High School, clocking in at 16 minutes, 54 seconds to finish first and lead the Prospectors to a score of 37 and a team victory over Williams Field (43), Combs (63) and Florence (76).

When Hollywood film crews headed to Arizona to make movies, the East Valley became a favorite choice, and as a proud Arizonan, I seem to gravitate to films that I otherwise might not choose to see simply because I hope to see somewhere I’ve been.
Backpacks aren’t just for carrying expensive textbooks, crinkled homework assignments, and eraser shavings. For Mesa-based non-profit United Food Bank, they’re a means to feed.
Outlook: The 2012 football season was decidedly not Saguaro-esque. The Sabercats were defeated in three regular season games and barely avoided losing a fourth. They were seeded just ninth heading into the postseason and lost to Goodyear Desert Edge in the state quarterfinals – their earliest exit since 2005.
