I have always thought of myself as very patriotic. My grandparents, who raised their family in the depression of the 1930s, always talked about the American dream, that is the ability to achieve what you are willing to work for, and I bought into it hook, line and sinker. I had a belief that this was achieved because of our unique form of government allowed for self-expression and self-direction. There is usually a tear in my eye as we say the Pledge of Allegiance as I think of what this country has done for me and my family and just what our responsibilities are in turn.

Elementary schools in the Chandler Unified School District will soon have security cameras. The governing board voted 2-1 on three contracts totalling $1.3 million to put a 12-camera system at each of the 29 K-6 schools. Two board members were out of town Wednesday, but there was a quorum with the three other members. Board members Bob Rice and Annette Auxier approved the measure. Board member David Evans voted against it.

Having served on the Chandler City Council for 8 years as well as the Chandler School Board for 8 years, I am running for the City Council again because I believe experience matters, especially during these tough economic times. We have lived in Chandler for 30 years and had a small business in Chandler for 39 years. Chandler has been a wonderful community to live and raise our 2 children.
