Police said a homeless Mesa woman fled from officers on her bicycle, swerving in and out of oncoming traffic before finally crashing into a curb.
Deanne Sue Brown, 37, told police on Wednesday — after they pinned her down and handcuffed her — that she is tired of being arrested and runs from officers every time they try to stop her.
Court records show that Mesa officers attempted to stop Brown on Broadway Road after they observed her riding her bicycle in a reckless manner, causing many cars to swerve from hitting her. Instead of stopping, Brown cursed at the officers and rode around them and continued down the street.
Police said the woman resisted arrest after she fell off the bike. As she was fighting from being handcuffed, police said she spit out two rocky substances from her mouth. Brown told police that she ran because she had a warrant for her arrest and also because the stuff she spit from her mouth was approximately $10 worth of crack cocaine.
A glass pipe, used for smoking crack, was found in a slit cut in the woman’s pants next to her zipper. Brown told police she had just bought the drugs.
Brown was charged with one count of resisting arrest, one count of obstructing a thoroughfare, two counts of endangerment, one count of possession of drug paraphernalia and one count of possession of narcotic drugs.
Brown had multiple warrants out for her arrest and had past convictions for possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of narcotics and trespassing.
