In preparation for opening its first tuition-free public elementary school in fall 2008, Arizona State University is hosting information sessions for preschool through sixth-grade students and their parents beginning at 7 p.m. tonight in the Student Union Ballroom at ASU’s Polytechnic Campus, 7001 E. Williams Field Road in Mesa.
Additional meetings will be held at 7 p.m. on Nov. 15 and Dec. 6.
University Public Schools is a new ASU initiative that will partner with schools, community and business leaders to create “an innovative, research-based educational environment that promotes student achievement and preparation for a global society.”
The school will offer students a small-school setting, high academic standards, innovative curriculum, individual learning plans, family involvement and access to university research and resources.
Before- and after-school infant and toddler child care will also be available, as well as preschool classes for 3- and 4-year-olds.
