Suns center Brian Skinner was not able to practice for a second straight day Wednesday and will sit out Thursday's preseason opener in Sacramento to rest his bruised right knee.
"There's no need to push things right now, so we'll give him a little more time," Suns coach Mike D'Antoni said.
With Amare Stoudemire (knee) also out, the already smallish Suns will have to rely on Boris Diaw and Sean Marks in the post tonight against the Kings, although Shawn Marion and even Grant Hill can play the position when the team goes with three forwards and no center.
Skinner suffered the injury while banging knees with a teammate Oct. 2 in Tucson but played through the pain during training camp. The swelling lingered so the Suns had an MRI performed on the knee this weekend, which came back negative.
Skinner isn't expected to be out for an extended period, but could also miss Saturday's home preseason debut against New Orleans.
