If you need advice or inspiration for your home improvement projects, there’s a slew of new shows are on the lineup of popular cable channels HGTV and DIY Network to help. Here’s what’s new.

“Carter Can”
Premieres: 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 4 and 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 6 on HGTV
For homeowners who have been told that their home project is too difficult, costly or just not worth the effort, lifestyle expert and craftsman Carter Oosterhouse comes to the rescue. During each episode, Oosterhouse tackles daunting projects that will inspire viewers who want practical yet progressive advice that is easily translated to their own home improvement projects, incorporating “green” solutions into each episode.

“Property Virgins”
Premieres: 10 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 23 on HGTV
Hosted by Sandra Rinomato, “Property Virgins” takes viewers inside the world of house hunting through the eyes of first-time buyers. The series focuses on the roller-coaster journey of buyers’ first foray into real estate, offering tell-it-like-it-is entertainment and practical advice.

“Hammer Heads”
Premieres: 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 6 on HGTV
Nearly every home has a few unfinished projects because the jobs turned out to be too complex or time-consuming for homeowners. Builder Steve Hanneman (pictured) and carpenters Carmen de la Paz and Marcus Hunt come to the aid of homeowners in need of professional construction and design help.

“Rip & Renew”
Premieres: 11:30 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 7 on HGTV
Viewers will tag along with expert builder James Lunday and interior designer Michelle Carano as they tackle the architectural overhaul of a family’s uninspiring space. From floor to ceiling, from ancient Greece to Colonial revival, from a tiny niche to ceiling joists, viewers will watch as the show’s experts demonstrate the endless architectural solutions that can create one exciting room.

“Sleep on It!”
Premieres: Not yet scheduled, Tuesday, Jan. 1 on HGTV
This new design reality series gives adult children the gentle but firm nudge they need to move out of their parents’ home. Parents across the country will conspire with HGTV to get unsuspecting offspring out of the house so the show’s designers can move in, pack up the kids’ stuff and get them gone for good. But they’re not being kicked to the curb — they’ll be set up in their own personally designed pad.

“Cool Tools”
Premieres: 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 22 on DIY Network
Chris Grundy will host this series about innovative products for do-it-yourselfers.
