Ticket sales slow for American Idol’s’ Pickler

Ticket sales for “American Idol” contestant Kellie Pickler’s performance at the Queen Creek Performing Arts Center on Saturday have been sluggish.

“It’s part of our growing pains,” center director Molly Jacobs said. “We should have planned marketing for Kellie a little earlier than we did, then more people would have known about it.”

Roughly 230 tickets have been sold in a venue that seats 777.

The Pickler concert kicks off the center’s 2007-08 KMLE Country Series. Mark Chesnutt is scheduled to play Oct. 5 and Phil Vassar on Dec. 13.

Jacobs said Pickler’s ticket sales are not far behind country musician Ryan Shupe’s 300 ticket sales from his 2006 performance, and part of the reason why Pickler’s sales are low could be because of late marketing.

“With advertising as expensive as it is, a small performance arts center has to save its dollars,” Jacobs said.

The center placed ads in newspapers, and radio station KMLE Country 108 has made some mention on air.

Pickler will perform at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the center, 22149 E. Ocotillo Road. For ticket information, call (480) 987-5964.

I'm surprised this concert hasn't already sold out. Kellie's concert at Whiskey Pete's Showroom in Primm, NV in about the same size venue (700 seats) the night before appears to be sold out since Ticketmaster shows no seats remain.

My guess is that since Kellie opened for Brad Paisley in Phoenix fairly recently (July 1st), most people who wanted to see her went to that concert. Has she done a guest spot or interview on KMLE? The ticket prices are on the high side but worth it to see Kellie perform a full set in a small venue. If you saw her with Brad she could sing just 5 or 6 songs because he had 3 openers. When Kellie headlines or performs solo concerts, she sings about 13 songs including most or all of the songs on her album and a couple of great covers. If you haven't heard it, her entire album is fantastic! Kellie is an awesome performer, one of the best, and many of her fans go to her concerts with Brad then to her solo shows for more songs.

If you are thinking about going to the Queen Creek concert just go because it will be one of the best and most entertaining concerts of your life! Kellie rocks the house and interacts with the audience more than anyone else I've seen! Smaller venues like this are the best places to see concerts and there isn't a bad seat in the house. Kellie might as well be singing in your living room. I'm not sure about this concert but she signs autographs after most shows, so you might get your CD or something signed and a photo. Music fans of all genres are crazy if they miss the opportunity to see this sweetheart up close and personal. She puts on a wonderful show. She does some covers of big country hits, but most of the material is from her album and her own songs that she co-wrote on the album.....stories of her life. Seeing her perform I Wonder and My Angel live will bring you to tears. You will laugh and clap along with Things that Never Cross a Man's Mind and One of the Boys. You will not be disappointed. I wouldn't say Kellie's ticket sales are sluggish, the only thing I see sluggish around here are those that waited till the last minute to tell anyone that Kellie was going to be there, especially considering the high ticket prices they were wanting. Not that it matters because I personally believe Kellie will still sell out this place even with the short time she was given to do so.

If someone considers Kellie's ticket sales slow what do they call the ticket sales for Mark Chesnutt on Oct. 5th because they don't look any better. Not that I wouldn't be surprised if his show sells out as well.

Personally I think the person who wrote this article is making a big stink about nothing. The way this concert was promoted I don't see where ticket sales are slow at all. In fact I would say Kellie's ticket sales are doing quite well. I hope the moron who wrote this piece takes the same amount of time to write about how Kellie sold out this show. Then maybe we will have something worth reading. I mean, what are they even basing this story on anyway, some other singer's final ticket sale totals from last year?????? What the frig does that have to do with Kellie's final totals. Doesn't this idiot realize Kellie is going to be selling tickets all the way up to the night of the show?????? I see they already dropped the Mark Chesnutt concert on Oct. 5th due to only selling about 50 tickets because of this poor promotion.

Seeing as how Kellie has already sold about 500 of her tickets it looks like she was able to pull off what Mark Chesnutt couldn't. Just goes to show how misleading this whole article was to begin with. Seeing how Kellie is kicking ass compared to Ryan Shupe's ticket sales as well as Mark Chesnutt's the title of this article should "Ticket sales are booming for American Idol's Pickler" since she is the only one filling the seats up regardless of the poor promotion.
