Fans will get an even better look at the Diamondbacks next season. The team has started the bidding process for a new Jumbotron scoreboard that would be the largest highdefinition video display board in professional sports, team president Derrick Hall said.
Atlanta currently has the largest HD video display in pro sports. It measures 71 feet, 4 inches by 78 feet, 8 inches.
The new board, which could cost in the neighborhood of $12 million, would replace the scoreboard that has been in place at Chase Field since it opened in 1998 as Bank One Ballpark.
It would be similar to the newer scoreboards in Atlanta, San Francisco and Miami and would continue the reworking of Chase Field.
The D-Backs have upgraded the sound system and added LED “ribbon” boards in the past two years.
“With the Jumbotron approaching 10 years of age, it is obviously outdated.
In fact, it is an ever-growing challenge to find replacement parts these days,” Hall said.
The new board likely would be funded by the Maricopa County Stadium Authority with help from the Diamondbacks.
