A Scottsdale-based solar energy company and three small firms from Singapore are the latest companies to say they will occupy space in SkySong, the ASU Scottsdale Innovation Center, according to announcements Tuesday.

American Solar Electric, a builder of photovoltaic power systems for commercial, industrial and residential customers, will move about half of its 32 employees to the high-tech center at Scottsdale and Mc-Dowell roads, the university said.

The rapidly growing company expects to install about 1.5 megawatts of photovoltaic power in Arizona this year and increase that rate to 5 megawatts annually by 2010, said President Sean Seitz. One megawatt is enough electricity to serve about 400 homes in Arizona.

The company will house management, engineering, sales, marketing and accounting staff at SkySong.

Seitz said the new Scottsdale location will benefit his company by helping to build relationships with Arizona State University and other high-tech companies planning to move there.

“We expect our presence on the campus to open up new partnerships and business opportunities,” he said. “The central location is also desirable and keeps us in close proximity to our construction operations.”

Seitz said he also wanted to keep the company in Scottsdale because of the city’s programs to encourage green buildings and solar energy development.

The three Singapore-based companies announcing plans Tuesday to move to SkySong were Logical Steps, a Web applications company; ST Consultancy, an educational software consulting firm; and Eye Power, an educational gaming company.

They follow Aurigin Technologies, a builder of equipment for chip manufacturers, on the list of Singapore-based companies that have announced their intention to locate at the center.

Logical Steps CEO Viswanath “Vish” Parameswaran said the SkySong operation will be the company’s first in the United States and will help the company be competitive here.
