Police arrested a Mesa man on suspicion of trying to pull a woman into his home to strangle her, sexually assault her and cut her into pieces.
Officials discussed the disturbing July 9 case Thursday during a Mesa police meeting.
Farell Dechuy, 26, an illegal alien from the Federated States of Micronesia, an island nation in the Pacific Ocean, was arrested on felony kidnapping and attempted sexual assault charges.
Court records show the man grabbed a woman’s arm and tried to pull her into his home at the 2700 Block of S. Rogers, near Alma School and Guadalupe roads. But the victim kicked the man in his shin, then ran home and called police.
Police contacted Dechuy at his home and questioned him about the attack. With a “calm” demeanor and showing no emotion, the man responded by saying he had grabbed the victim and tried to pull her into his backyard so he could strangle her to death, perform sex acts on her and cut her into pieces, records show.
Dechuy then told police that when he was done, he was going to put the woman’s body into garbage bags, and then throw them into the trash or the water.
Mesa police spokesman detective Chris Arvayo called the incident “a disturbing and extreme red flag into possible future behavior.”
Arvayo said the man admitted to police he had also watched an older woman doing yardwork and masturbated while crouching down near his home. The man also admitted to regularly watching women.
Two days before his attempted abduction arrest, police said Dechuy was arrested on suspicion of theft at a Mesa swimming pool, where the man said he wanted to touch women and was seen entering a women’s restroom.
Dechuy lived with family members, records show.
