The reward is growing for the arrest and conviction of whomever has killed dozens of waterfowl at Scottsdale’s Chaparral Park.

A $1,200 donation from the Southwest chapter of Witches Against Animal Abuse, announced Monday, pushes the total to $10,000.

“We are terribly concerned about this senseless act of animal cruelty,” chapter director Pat Jarrett said in a statement. “Witches Against Animal Abuse embraces the ethic of respect and compassion for all Mother Earth’s creatures.”

Since mid-April, ducks and geese have been found fatally beaten at the park.

Authorities have said there are no suspects, but police patrols have been increased in the area.

As of two weeks ago, the total of beating deaths stood at 28 — not including 15 ducklings that died after their mothers were killed.

Nine birds have been beaten but survived.

Previously pledging reward money are Arizona Humane Society and Silent Witness ($5,000), the Humane Society of the United States ($2,500) and the Tucson-based Animal Defense Council ($1,300).

Anyone with information about this case is asked to contact the Scottsdale Police Department at (480) 312-5000.

To contribute toward the care of the injured birds, contact the East Valley Wildlife Rehabilitation League at (480) 814-9339.
