Man tries to lure Mesa boy into his car

Katie McDevitt, Tribune

A man tried to lure a boy into his car Monday near Lowell Elementary School in Mesa, but the child climbed a nearby fence and ran to the school’s office for help.

Police said the 11-year-old boy was walking to school on 200 S. Solomon about 9:17 a.m. when a green Honda Accord pulled up next to the child. The driver then tried four times to talk the boy into getting into the car.

The child escaped by climbing a fence and running to the school’s office.

The man drove away south on Solomon, then turned left to go east on Broadway Road toward Stapley Drive, police said.

He is described as white, 20 to 30 years old with blond short hair that’s spiked on the top and a goatee. He wore a black shirt. His car also had a spoiler on the back and unusual silver rims. Also, the driver’s door had scratches on it.
