Suns fans may never forgive San Antonio’s Robert Horry for his hard foul on Steve Nash in Game 4 of the NBA Western Conference semifinals, but Nash apparently has already.
Nash said during a telephone conference call Tuesday that Horry — who was a teammate of his during his first tour with the Suns — would be welcome at his annual “Steve Nash Charity Classic” basketball game next month in Vancouver, British Columbia, and he’s already put the incident behind him.
“(Horry) is always invited,” Nash said. “I have to admit, even though he put me down on the blue line (with a hockey-like hip check), he’s a great guy. He was a teammate, and I really like Robert.
“I’ve been a few seconds away from snapping a few times myself. It really wasn’t that bad, what he did.”
But Nash is still steaming over the one-game suspensions Amaré Stoudemire and Boris Diaw earned in leaving the bench after Horry’s hit. With the series tied 2-2, the Suns lost Game 5 at home with a short-handed team.
“I think we have a great team, but it’s hard to judge us because of the suspensions. Part of me feels like, though we’ve improved, the other part of me feels like it’s hard to truthfully judge this team because we were kind of stripped of a fair opportunity in many regards.”
Nash said he has no plans to play for Canada in international competition this summer, choosing to rest his mind and body for another long season.
He will turn 34 during the 2007-08 season.
