Cardinals to open season on Monday Night Football

The Cardinals’ last attempt at a Monday night memory was a disaster. The NFL is giving them a chance to rectify that right away in 2007.
On the heels of the Cards’ infamous “Monday Night Meltdown” against the Chicago Bears in 2006, the league is sending the Cardinals to San Francisco for ESPN’s second “Monday Night Football” telecast of 2007’s opening weekend.
The game will kick off at 7:15 p.m. Arizona time and will follow Baltimore at Cincinnati, which kicks off at 4 p.m. Arizona time.
“It is awesome,” Cardinals quarterback Matt Leinart said. “It’s fun they are showing the NFC West some love and showing the Cardinals some love.
“ 'Monday Night Football’ really rivals the national championship games in college, just the atmosphere. It’s probably better just because it is the NFL.”
The Cardinals have never played on the road for “MNF” since moving to Arizona. It’s only the fifth time the team has appeared on Monday night in the same time period.
The NFL announced the entire national television schedule for the first weekend of games.
Super Bowl champion Indianapolis hosts New Orleans for the true opener on Thursday, Sept. 6. Chicago travels to San Diego for an afternoon game Sept. 9 on Fox, and NBC’s first “Sunday Night Football” telecast is the New York Giants at Dallas.
Three Thanksgiving day games — Green Bay at Detroit, the New York Jets at Dallas and Indianapolis at Atlanta — were also announced.
The rest of the NFL schedule will be released April 5.
