Bring on the backs. The two biggest names in Monday’s Fiesta Bowl will take center stage, but going from the limelight to the spotlight sent Oklahoma’s Adrian Peterson and Boise State’s Ian Johnson to far different places.
Peterson was a household name and early-season Heisman Trophy candidate. Then he broke his collarbone diving into the end zone in mid-October, ending his season.
Rather than kick back and wait at home to put his name in the NFL draft, the junior worked his way back for the chance to play in this game.
Johnson was anything but a household name until his redshirt sophomore season of more than 1,600 yards and 24 touchdowns, setting himself up as a Heisman candidate in 2007.
His story, however, isn’t what he does between the lines, as much as outside of them. Whether it’s his crochet hobby, fruit habits or extrovert personality, it’s done his way. From seemingly two different college football worlds, these two share at least one commonality: All eyes will be on them.
