Mesans pepper cops with questions on shooter

They knitted their brows and shook their heads. They yelled out questions to police. More than 400 concerned residents turned out Monday evening at Edison Elementary School's gymnasium in Mesa, 545 N. Horne Road, for a meeting with police to discuss the Serial Shooter.
Police held the meeting in response to a July 22 shooting, which left a bicyclist wounded on Stapley Drive north of Brown Road.
The shooting is linked to a serial killer who could be responsible for 35 shootings and five deaths throughout the Valley.
But less than 24 hours before Monday's meeting, another killing occurred.
Although police have not determined if the death of Robin Blasnek, 22, is linked to the Serial Shooter, the incident shook up the community.
"I get the sense that these guys are hunting us like we're deer or cattle" said one attendee.
Police asked a packed gymnasium about 6:30 p.m. to be the "eyes and ears" of the department. They admitted to "working on very limited evidence" and said it is "really hard to pinpoint where that person will strike next."
Residents asked questions about evidence, staying safe, and other information about the case. Police would not say if they had surveillance footage or disclose any details about the weapons despite repeated questions.
"Real life isn't 'CSI.' It's not 'Law and Order,’ ” said Mesa interim police Chief Greg Fowler. "We're not trying to be coy."
Crime prevention specialist Nicole Trankersley offered safety tips, after patrol Cmdr. John Meza explained that police are pouring extra resources into patrolling the streets and working their hardest to solve the crime.
