The Cardinals added to their offensive line depth Monday when tackle Derek Morris was awarded to the team off waivers.
Morris had been cut by Kansas City after the Chiefs signed him as an undrafted rookie earlier this month. The 6-foot-5, 332-pounder came out of North Carolina State as a junior.
While most scouting reports questioned why he didn’t stick around for another year of college maturation, Morris is massive.
Morris is expected to take part in this week’s rookie work once he arrives in town and passes his physical.
The Cards were in need of another tackle, with only Fred Wakefield, Alan Reuber and Dante Ellington on the roster to back up starters Leonard Davis and Oliver Ross.
RABBIT RUNS FOR RECORD
Cardinals running back Roger Robinson, who has picked up the nickname “Rabbit” in NFL Europe, finished the regular season with a league-record 1,087 yards rushing despite missing one of the 10 games with a concussion. Robinson’s 133 yards last weekend helped his Frankfurt team beat Berlin and qualify for the World Bowl.
Barcelona’s Mike Green held the record, having rushed for 1,057 yards in 2001.
Robinson’s seven 100-yard games also set a league record.
EXTRA POINTS
Both tight end Leonard Pope and defensive tackle Gabe Watson were limited in Monday’s rookie workout because of leg injuries. . . .
Undrafted free agent cornerback Jay McCareins practiced Monday after missing last week’s work while finishing exams at Princeton.
