They talk about their personal lives, play songs from independent artists, discuss local news, politics and quirky national news and play on-air games. On the show they use the last name Bates.

“It’s like a second job,” said Aaron Bachler, 31, a call center customer service representative who is also studying computer networking at Chandler-Gilbert Community College. “The people we’ve met podcasting are really unique people.”

Bachler said he first became interested in podcasting when he read a magazine article about the death of radio. He downloaded his first podcast and said “it was amazing.”

“People could say whatever they wanted, and it was a way to speak out,” said Bachler, who originally started the show by himself in May 2005. He asked his wife to co-host the show in July because he said it’s nice to be able to talk to someone.

“If you’re just talking to the computer, you feel like a dork,” he said. “This gives us a way of an hour of uninterrupted time to just talk.”

Jenny Bachler said she enjoys getting feedback from their listeners.

“You really have to love it to keep doing it,” said Jenny Bachler, 32, a medical center audiology assistant. “It’s a lot of work.”

The two sit at a computer desk in their den, talking into two microphones. The show is recorded onto their home computer, then uploaded onto their Web site, www. bigshowradio.com.

Anyone can then download the show free the next day and listen to it on a computer or an MP3 player. The show is also aired in the Queen Creek area on KQCX 99.1 FM at 1 p.m. Sundays, or streaming online at www.kqcx.com.

“The Big Show” has an average of 250 to 350 listeners a week from all over the country and the world, including China, Australia and Mexico, the couple said.

The two sometimes have guests on their show, including Queen Creek Mayor Wendy Feldman-Kerr and Mike Wilson, director of the documentary film “Michael Moore Hates America.” Wilson contacted the Bachler’s after hearing the podcast of the show with Aaron Bachler relating how upset he was over Wilson’s movie.

“We just want to continue growing our audience, and we want people to have fun,” Aaron Bachler said.
